Today, August 9, is the birthday of my undergraduate college‘s namesake, Adoniram Judson (1788—1850), the first Protestant missionary from the United States. Judson was called by God to proclaim the gospel among the Buddhists in Burma. He spent three years learning Burmese and eventually produced the first translation of the Bible in that language.
John Piper and Desiring God have made available a short (21-page) devotional biography of this great man of faith and passion to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20). The book is available in ePub (Nook, Sony Reader, and Apple iBooks), MOBI (Kindle) as well as a downloadable PDF.
